Bikepacking in Scotland – 14 Days Among Mountains, Rain, and Fog
14 days in Scotland, only three of which were rain-free. Mountains, fog, canceled ferries, nights spent camping, and gravel routes that make up for all the hardships. Natalia Nykiel took her titanium GRAIN Ti from Koloride on a trip through the Scottish Highlands. She shares what delighted her, what surprised her, and how to prepare for bikepacking in a place where the weather likes to have a mind of its own.
1x or 2x drivetrain for a gravel bike? Which one should you choose?
1x or 2x? I don’t start by talking about the number of chainrings, but rather where and how you’ll be riding. A modern 1x drivetrain can offer a wider gear range than a classic 2x setup, but the larger gaps between gear ratios won’t suit everyone. I’ll explain when I’d choose 1x, when I’d choose 2x, and why the answer isn’t at all obvious when it comes to mountain biking, bikepacking, or ultra-distance rides.
